Male self-care on Father's Day

According to mentalhealth-uk.org, only 36% of all NHS referrals for psychological therapies are for men, meaning men are less likely to seek help for their mental health. And Mind’s latest report on male mental health found that two in five men admit to regularly feeling worried or low, an increase since 2009.

Male self-care on Father’s Day

This Father’s Day, it’s important to ensure that men are aware self-care is a ritual that they can benefit from. There are many small ways to incorporate self-care in to a daily routine. Here are our top tips:

  • Whatever exercise you can squeeze in, do it! Of course if you can manage 30 minutes a day or 10,000 steps that’s great, but anything you can do to get your heart rate up every day will make a difference to your mood and your health.
  • A good skincare routine is for everyone. Using moisturiser every day will keep your skin supple and hydrated; try Ubiety’s Magnolia and Palma Rosa Euphoric Body Lotion, bringing brightness to your skin soothing ritual, while our vitamin rich shea butter formulation soothes and softens stressed skin, leaving you feeling body positive, inside and out.
  • Get out in to nature. Sometimes we spend so much time in our own thoughts that we become disconnected from the outside world. Nature can provide perspective and offer space for reflection, allowing us to clear those difficult thoughts. To bring the outside in, try Ubiety’s Cedar, Sage & Ylang Ylang Calming Reed Diffuser, which uses a soothing blend of essential oils including earthy cedarwood, fresh and floral ylang ylang, spearmint and sage, chosen to promote calm and relaxation.
  • When stressed, meditation and mindfulness can help to refocus the mind and reduce your heart rate. Yoga is another option for reaching a peaceful mental state, or a deep tissue massage can help to quiet a noisy mind. To book a Ubiety massage at our new Find Ubiety therapy space in Bath, use the link here to reserve your space. Or book the Ubiety Soul Spa Package; after your massage, you can attend the Soul Spa’s incredible Sound Bath where practitioners use Tibetan Singing Bowls to free you from the last of your negative emotions.
  • Talk to your friends and loved ones. It can be easy to lose touch with people when you’re busy, but you may find suddenly you’re feeling a little lonely. Make sure to pick up the phone and call your friends or family and arrange to see them. There’s nothing like actually seeing someone face to face for a catch up to lift your mood.

There are so many ways men can choose to take care of themselves on Father’s Day, but it’s important to understand that self-care is vital for everyone, however that routine may look.
